Q What is cholesterol? How can we avoid it?
Cholesterol is a type of fat found in blood, liver, digestive tract and cells in your body etc. Cholesterol is produced in our liver, and is essential component in many metabolic and building mechanisms of your body. But when there is anything that affect in its production or utilization, it lead to increase in cholesterol levels in blood. Cholesterol is present in many food stuffs, and is derived from fat in food stuffs. Increase in cholesterol levels is due to a faulty diet. Food high in saturated fats is chiefly responsible to affect normal cholesterol levels. Such food are red meat, sausages, hard cheese, pastries, most of the cookies and biscuits and many more. Other than this, over consumption of food high in cholesterol like eggs, liver, milk and dairy products, etc, and food high in trans fat like packaged food, chips, deep fried food etc can cause increase in cholesterol levels. Restricting intake of these foods will help to keep cholesterol levels under normal limits.
