Dry socket is the most common complication following tooth extractions. The risk factors to have dry socket include- smoking, poor oral hygiene, infection, wisdom teeth pulled, use of birth control pills, a history of dry socket after having teeth pulled etc. Consult your dental surgeon immediately to prevent the complications who may give you some medications to relieve the pain and call you for regular medical dessings, if necessary. Avoid smoking or using tobacco products. Apply cold packs on the outside of your face in the first 48 hours followed by warm packs after extraction process. Rinse your mouth with warm salt water several times a day. Avoid beverages other than water like coffee, soda, beer, wine etc. The condition will get better in few days folowing proper curative and preventive measures.
