There can be several reasons for low back pain. The most common cause for backache is poor posture or wrongly adopted back posture. You should always walk, sit and stand straight to adopt correct posture. Other common causes include lower back muscle strain or sprain due to heavy weight lifting, blunt trauma to back, disc herniation in spine, sciatica, premenstrual syndrome in females, menstrual or reproductive tract complains in females, excessive mental stress in young people, degenerative diseases in elderly people, etc. If it is an acute pain, then you can take any over-the-counter pain reliever medicine to reduce the pain. But if it is very chronic and present since many days, then the cause should be investigated and treatment should be done accordingly. Some home measures may find helpful for you to relieve the pain. Home measures like hot application by hot water bottle, massage with eucalyptus oil, application of over-the-counter gel for pain relief etc can be beneficial. If it is due to stress, you can practice meditation or breathing exercise or yoga to relieve the stress. Practising yoga poses will also help to improve and maintain correct posture. This makes your body more flexible and strengthen muscles. If nothing works, or you can not find any suitable cause behind your backache, you should visit an orthopedic physician to explore the cause.
