Cholesterol is not always bad, it is one of the essential fat in body. But it should be kept within normal limits. If raised, it produces threat to blood vessels and heart. If it is already increased, here are some effective dietary and lifestyle changes to reduce its level to normal: 1. You should consume olive oil and products made from it. As it is heart friendly oil. Also you can take olives with your salad. 2. You should take fiber rich food like legumes, whole grain products, brown rice, vegetables and fruits, nuts and beans preferably soybeans in any form, try to eat daily. 3. Prefer fat free or low fat dairy products, specially fat free yogurt, rather than regular dairy items. 4. Garlic is plays very important role in controlling cholesterol. Either consume garlic in daily diet, or have 2-3 cloves of garlic daily. 5. Eat fish at least 3 times a week. Prefer oily fish like salmon, tuna, as they contain omega-3 fatty acids which is heart friendly. 6. Along with healthy diet, exercise is equally important. Daily exercise for 20-30 minutes or for 40 minutes for 5 days a week is recommanded. Any moderate exercise like swimming, jogging, brik walk, cycling or any outdoor actvity can be done. Do not allow you to become chubby and fatty. Control your weight in normal range for good heart and cholesterol. These things when done together can help you bring down the increased cholesterol.
