Q What are symptoms of dehydration in a baby?
The dehydration is one of the most important causes leading to death in the developing countries. So, it is good to know the symptoms, because it will help in early diagnosis and the treatment within time. The moderate dehydration shows- dry mouth, sleepiness or tiredness, thirst, decreased urine output, few or no tears when crying, dry skin, constipation, dizziness or lightheadedness etc. In severe dehydration, the symptoms are- very dry mouth, skin and mucous membranes, Sunken eyes, extreme fussiness or sleepiness in infants and children; irritability and confusion in adults, no sweating, little or no urination or dark yellow colored urination, in infants, sunken fontanels, which is the soft spots on the top of a babys head, increased heartbeat and breathing, no tears when crying, fever etc. In the most serious cases, delirium or unconsciousness is seen.
