Q What is contact lenses how does they work?
Contact lenses are small plastic or silicone discs shaped to correct an eyesight problem such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, presbyopia, or astigmatism. Contacts are placed directly on the surface of the eye. When compared with spectacles, contact lenses typically provide better peripheral vision, and do not collect moisture such as rain, snow, condensation, or sweat. This makes them ideal for sports and other outdoor activities. Also, many people prefer contacts for aesthetic and cosmetic reasons. Contact lenses work by directly focusing the light so that it enters the eye with the proper power for clear vision. A spherical contact lens bends light evenly in every direction and hence they are typically used to correct myopia and hyperopia. A toric contact lens has a different focusing power horizontally than it does vertically, and as a result can correct astigmatism. Contact lenses have their own set of complications such as red eye, dry eye, infections etc.
