Q I took cipro last wednesday and started to get itchy skin and a rash started to appear so the doctor had me stop taking the antibiotic on sunday When I touch my skin, scratching or not, it becomes red and inflamed...sometimes it has bumps, but not always. My throat also itches and is sore. Is this still my body reacting to the antibiotic from a week ago or is this from something else? Should I be worried?
Itching, rashes, hives and throat irritation are symptoms of severe allergy to ciprofloxacin. Ciprofloxacin is usually excreted from the body within 24 hours of its intake. However, its side effects may stay longer. If your symptoms do not disappear or considerably reduce within the next week, please consult your physician. If the symptoms are very severe now or increasing in intensity, your doctor can prescribe other drugs to relieve you. In the meanwhile, application of aloevera gel will be useful to soothe your skin irritation. Do warm salt water gargles twice a day to relieve your throat. Make time you ever vist any physician for any illness, make sure that you mention your allergy to cipro.
