Q How can i get my iron levels high? Ive got my 36 week antenatal appointment tomorrow. And i need my bloods taken. I currently have had low iron, and had got given tablets, but they was knocking me sick, but i have been feeling a lot better in myself. Just to make sure that my iron levels are good, what can i do to make them high? Like what can i eat or do?
Hi. Kindly note that, during pregnancy, you need more iron, as you are supplying it to the baby and yourself. Here are some of the foods which are rich in iron and should be taken regularly- Red meat, egg yolks, green leafy greens (spinach, collards), dried fruit (prunes, raisins), mollusks (oysters, clams, scallops), turkey or chicken giblets, beans, lentils, chick peas and soybeans, liver, artichokes etc. The peanut and jaggary taken togther is a good iron supplement.
