Q Last year I have been diagnosed with postherpetic neuralgia, having pain at lower left abdomen and chest since one year, its burning and continuous pain. Underwent ultrasound of abdomen and scan but reports are normal. What is the diagnosis? can I get cured or I have to live with the pain?
Post herpetic neuralgia is a common aftermath of Herpes Zoster infection and it usually lasts anywhere ranging from several months to years. Currently, there is no proven cure for PHN however many treatments are available to provide relief. The treatment options are Lidocaine/capsaicin skin patches, anticonvulsants, antidepressants, opioid painkillers, topical applications etc; but all of these are prescription medicines so consult your physician to discuss your options.
