Q How do you get skin cancer?
Skin cancers occur as a result of mutations of the skin cells. The prime cause of most skin cancers is exposure to ultraviolet radiation of the sun. The risk factors which increase the chances of developing skin cancer are fair complexion, moles, precancerous skin lesions, residing in sunny climates, history of sunburns, family history of skin cancer or a weak immune system. The major types of skin cancer are melanoma, basal cell cancer and squamous cell cancer. To protect yourself from skin cancer, avoid exposure to the sun during peak hours, keep maximum skin covered when under the sun, wear sunscreen and avoid tanning beds.
