Q How to know you are a diabetic without going for a check up?
Increased freuency of urination, increased thirst and increased hunger are three major symptoms of diabetes. Other symptoms include weight loss, fatigue, slow healing of wound, repeated infection, blurred vision, sweet smell in urine, nausea, vomiting etc. However exact diagnosis can only be made after a laboratory investigation. A person is said to be diabetic if he/she has persistent hyperglycemia which is indicated by the following: Fasting plasma glucose level of more than 126 mg/dl. Plasma Glucose level of more than 200 mg/dl measured after two hours of intake of 75 gm of glucose. Random Plasma Glucose level of more than 200 mg/dl in a person with symptoms of hyperglycemia. So for exact diagnosis check up is must.
