Q Why do i get heart palpitations when i eat sugar? It seems every time i eat something with alot of sugar this happens.
The symptom you are telling can be normal or it can be suggestive of diabetes or other disease. You can go for testing your blood sugar levels (fasting and PP) once, to rule out possibility of diabetes. Palpitation can be related to heavy meal or consumption of rich food after long period of hunger. High sugar or fatty food can cause palpitations if taken after long hungry hours. The mechanism is, it causes temporary gastric distension, that hamper functioning of vagus nerve, a common nerve to stomach, heart and some other organs, leading to experience palpitation after such meals. There are some other reasons which lead to heart palpitations like emotional stress, any heart related problem, high blood pressure etc. Consult your physician for proper physical examination and to rule out any underlying cause.
