Q My son has, for the past three weeks, started to blink his eyes continuously. His teacher has commented about it but he says he cant stop, as his eyes feel itchy. I have noticed his eyes are still twitching even when hes asleep. Is there anything i can do?
He needs to be examined by an ophthalmologist to rule out an ingrown eyelash, corneal abrasion, foreign body in the eye or eye dryness, or decreased vision. However, frequent blinking in a child is commonly due to habitual tic. It may be caused by stress, fatigue or boredom. In such a case, you must identify whether any particular thing is troubling your child such asva new baby in the house, lack of attention, insecurity etc. Tics usually resolve on their own without treatment. Never make any comment to stop him blinking infront of him because more he will get aware and conscious of his tic more he will develop it so make it casual as much as possible.
