Q Why do some hiv positive people never make antibodies to the aids virus even after three years?
When you call a person HIV positive, it itself indicate that he has shown the antibodies against HIV virus in his blood. Routine tests to diagnose HIV are chiefly based on testing antibodies in a persons blood against HIV virus. If these are found, then only he can be termed as HIV positive. But these are not able to eradicate the virus from body, as HIV virus directly attach itself to cells which are responsible for bodys immunity. They multiply within these cells and eventually kill them. The body does produce antibodies against HIV, resulting in a long drawn battle between immune system and the virus. However, over a period of several years, persons immune system is completely destroyed and body gives up fighting against all kind of bacteria, viruses or pathogens including HIV one.
