Q My nephew is 8 years old all the time he is scratching his ears and complaining of itching inside the ear, we visited ent specialist last month he said he is producing more amount of wax which needs to be cleaned after regular interval, but after getting cleaning also he is complaining of itching inside ear and he always gives pressure on ear and because of that he is not able to concentrate in studies, we are very much worried about his complain please help!!!
Kindly note that, itching in ear has some causes like wax, moisture in the ear, any infection, foreign body etc. As per his ENT physician, the cause for his complains is wax and it should get cleared at regular intervals. Make sure, you are putting the ear drop and giving him the medicines prescribed. You can ask the physician to take the ear swab to rule out any fungal infection, which is one of the most important factor for recurrent itching in ear. If he is going to swimming, just stop it for few days, till the symptoms are relieved. Here are some of the tips to help him in reducing his complains:- Dry his ears completely after bath to prevent any infection caused by moisture. Do not try to remove wax at home using any Q pin or key. Put cotton balls in the ear while bathing, or when going out to prevent the infection. You can put 2-3 drops of olive oil or coconut oil in his ear for 3-4 days in the night. This will help him to ease the symptoms a lot. Keep regular follow ups with his ENT doctor for time to time evaluation.
