Q Hello doctor, i am 33 year woman having pain and bleeding after sex since 2 years. Is this sign of cervical cancer? What are the causes of cervical cancer? How is the cervical carcinoma diagnosed? What is the treatment for the same?
Yes, it can be a symptom of cervical cancer, but other causes can be other like infections, etc. Most common risk factor is Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). Other risk factor includes smoking, HIV infection, chlamydia infection, dietary factors, hormonal contraception, multiple pregnancies, exposure to the hormonal drug and a family history of cervical cancer. Pap smear is the screening test for prevention and Biopsy can diagnose the cervical cancer. Treatment includes chemotherapy, radiation therapy or surgery, but it depends on stage of carcinoma. I will suggest to consult gynaecologist for physical examination and investigation.
