Q I am a new diabetic. Can someone give me ideas of what and how much to eat? I love all foods obviously because i am overweight.
As a diabetic, you must know that only dietary changes is not the part of the treatment. Along with it, exercise and medications are equally important. You said, you are overweight. The very first thing you have to do is decrease your weight by doing the exercise like walking, cycling or swimming etc for about 30-45 min a day. You must take the high fibre carbohydrates like brown rice or wild rice, sweet potatoes, yams, winter squash, cauliflower mash, high-fiber breakfast cereal, bran flakes, peas or leafy greens etc. Eat a lot of non-starchy vegetables, beans, and fruits such as apples, pears, peaches, and berries. You must take fats, such as olive oil, nuts (almonds, walnuts, pecans), and avocados. Limit saturated fats like dairy and animal fat. Always remember, you should have three meals and one or two snacks each day, and don~t skip breakfast.
