Q My nails are little bit discolored what is the reason?
Nail discoloration can indicate wide range of medical conditions, or it can be as simple as exposure to coloring agents. Generally healthy nails look white with pinkish tinge. Many a times, nails can get yellowish color due to improper nail hygiene. Medical conditions for discolored nails can be fungal infection of nails, which is most common condition, greenish nails due to pseudomonas infection at nail bed, red or blackish nails due to blood collected under the nails, yellow color due to jaundice, pale nails due to anemia or cigarette smoking, darker color may suggest diseases of heart, lung, kidney or diabetes, etc. If you are suffering from any other symptoms apart from nail discoloration, you should see a doctor to investigate the cause further. However, you can improve their color by giving break from frequent nail polish application, using good quality nail products, doing regular manicure, keeping nails hygienic, massaging them by almond oil or oil rich in vit E daily.
